As a Service. has become a buzzword in recent years but DaaS - Device as a Service - goes beyond that. It provides a new model to support businesses in their innovation and digitisation process by offering various components in a single solution; a combination of hardware (devices) associated services and attractive financing options.

The Device as a Service concept has gained momentum as a result of the global pandemic. On the one hand, remote work has risen significantly, making it the new normal we see today. The majority of trendsetting companies already offered working from home pre-pandemic and now that everyone has experienced the benefits, the notion will certainly continue. On the other hand, it is a cost-saving solution. If you give homeworkers the best available resources, the IT manager and extended team won’t have to focus their efforts in resolving homeworkers technical issues so efficiency is greater amongst both parties.

Compare it to the company car. Companies often want to lease the best solution, rather than the cheapest option, with all services included: maintenance, tire change, ... for a fixed monthly and affordable rate. DaaS uses a similar model but with IT equipment and services.

Six advantages of DaaS

The IT team today faces many challenges. It is required to provide employees the necessary tools to work as efficiently as possible wherever they are, support the business with new IT initiatives, and optimis the lifecycle and use of devices, all whilst keeping costs under control. DaaS has the solution for each of these challenges, with the following results:

  1. Increased productivity: just as with commercial vehicles, we always recommend the most appropriate solution (with the relevant equipment). As a result, employees experience less downtime and are, in turn, more productive. Collaboration tools also enable them to work more efficiently. With DaaS, a business can scale faster to meet its needs.
  2. Simplicity: for the IT manager the complexity disappears. After all, software, services and hardware come in one package. This enables them to better plan, configure, manage and monitor the lifecycle of the IT fleet. Licenses can also be optimised thanks to a better understanding of the use of all applications in the organisation.
  3. Empowering: the type of device someone should work with, is quickly becoming a decisive factor in recruiting talent. To keep staff on board and empower them, it can also be appropriate to let them choose from several options. When workers can use the device they feel most comfortable with, they will perform better. How about the Microsoft Surface, for example?
  4. Time saving: the IT staff spend less time on end-user support which enables them to focus on addeing value for the business. Moreover, they can also save time with the standardised roll-out (with imaging and MS Autopilot).
  5. Security: IT security today can be one of the biggest headaches for the IT manager, and even the CEO, due to homeworkers using their device for both professional and private purposes. With DaaS, the IT manager can add the necessary security services so that the device is always up-to-date and secure.
  6. Cost optimisation: investing in equipment costs a lot of money which can slow down a company's growth or innovation. However, by purchasing these devices via a DaaS model, businesses can pay a monthly fee for the device and services which keeps costs lower and more predictable. After all, you don't have to pay a large sum of money at once if you need a larger volume of devices.
