The VMware Usage Meter 4.1 is now generally available. Don’t install this version without careful reading below and the release notes as this is a fundamental different product and does not support the same products as usage meter 3.6.x.
What’s new?
In-Place Upgrades:
For Service Providers moving to Usage Meter 4.1, this will be the last time that they need to replace the entire appliance to upgrade! Upgrading to Usage Meter 4.2 and later will be done in-place!
New Collectors:
Usage Meter 4.0 was released earlier in the year with vCenter/ESXi metering only and this release adds vRealize Operations and NSX-V. This is a big step in compatibility with VCPP bundles and enables VMware get closer to feature parity with UM 3.6.1
Usage Insight + Usage Meter:
In Usage Meter 4.x, Usage Insight is necessary for bundle generation and monthly reporting. Because of Usage Insight, VMware is also taking on the data retention responsibility for months where they are using Usage Insight
Who is Usage Meter 4.1 built for?
There are plenty of partners that can take advantage of Usage Meter 4.1, but there are also partners that will need to wait. These tables below show which products and bundles are supported with Usage Meter 4.1, and which products and bundles mean partners need to stay on 3.6.1.
