In the run-up to 2020, a number of companies were developing a strategy to respond to their growing security challenges. However, the pandemic, which has resulted in a rise of remote and hybrid working has made cybersecurity more urgent than ever before, with increased security risks. This has left a number of organisations seeking expert advice to ensure XYZ? Insight therefore tries to make sure that its customers stay up-to-date on the latest cybersecurity solutions.
Cloud, edge, on-premises infrastructure … data is everywhere today, making security and compliance increasingly complex. Modern companies are now part of a hyper-connected world. To serve their customers, they need to develop user-friendly applications. Yet this also exposes them to new risks as hackers try to exploit these applications to collect data and find loopholes in the system. In addition, the COVID-19 outbreak has forced organisations to switch to remote working and deploy tools that people need to connect and access data from their home offices.
Many companies were not ready for these new working conditions. In some cases their current IT strategy is not up-to-date, with processes even dating back more than ten years. IT leaders had to adjust their priorities to stay ahead of a rapidly evolving threat landscape. In 2020, the figures of that landscape were staggering: malware attacks increased by 358%, there was a ransomware victim every ten seconds, and the average cost of a data breach rose to 3.86 million dollars.
In 2021, cyberattacks will continue to evolve and the risks of ransomware and phishing will increase.1 An Insight survey found that 96% of organisations have expanded their cybersecurity budgets in 2020, and 91% plan to do the same in the coming year. Despite these efforts, 78% of IT leaders report a lack of confidence in their company’s security posture. Businesses often use their new IT budgets to quickly purchase and install a solution without analysing all of their needs. A strong cybersecurity strategy includes multiple solutions that work together flawlessly.
To guarantee optimal protection, it is clear that organisations must focus on strategic planning, modernising their IT, optimising current security operations, and investing in skilled cybersecurity staff. This is where Insight comes in, because we have experts to guide companies along this challenging journey and the technical resources to identify and implement tools that support a holistic program to secure every layer of the IT environment.
Cybersecurity is not only about installing the right tools, it can also be about the way of working and the people who work with data. Insight therefore prefers a pragmatic approach with experts who have experience with a variety of products: antivirus, protection of devices and workstations for users, and security management to increase the protection of the entire IT environment.
Thanks to our partnerships, we have direct contact with major companies such as Microsoft , Amazon and VMware. This means that our own dedicated specialists are always aware of what is going on and have insight into the best solutions on the market. From this position, they support clients with customised solutions based on their specific needs.
For Microsoft 365, for example, we have developed a managed service that allows clients to monitor, audit, and proactively secure their environment. This means that attacks can be blocked before they become a problem. And as cloud is becoming increasingly important, we also have security experts certified by Microsoft to support companies that store data in Azure Cloud. They not only give the right recommendations, but also provide governance over time. We offer the same kind of expertise for other cloud providers, such as Amazon and VMware.
A client journey is always based on two principles. First, Insight experts help you understand the best practices for each platform. It requires a lot of research when you have do to this on your own, and it can be difficult to interpret these guidelines. Second, we tailor those best practices to each client’s business. For example, what are the consequences for the way people work in the organisation and how can we install a solution without having too much impact on the end users? For this, we rely on our extensive experience with other projects.
Insight offers a multi-layered approach where security is based on each layer and can be defined in the IT environment: physical security, identity & access, perimeter, network, computing, application, and the data. This allows us to identify the security needs for every layer and make life more difficult for potential attackers. Hackers want to access data but must first pass through the various layers. If they succeed in one layer, they must start again in the next and face new complexities. In most cases, hackers will get stuck and lose interest because they need too many resources. They will also leave some traces behind, making it easier to identify a problem and intercept an attack.
This multi-layered approach is the best strategy for maintaining security. If one layer is not working properly, we can quickly fix the problem without having to change the entire environment. This way, clients are well protected against zero-day threats and can always respond appropriately. After all, monitoring threats is just as important as installing the right solutions for current security concerns. By relying on Insight, companies can keep their security strategy up-to-date and have access to a dedicated team of professionals without having to make huge investments.
