An international leader in alcoholic beverages with more than 200 world famous brands needed a new datacentre solution to support its entire global business function.
The client wanted a complete overhaul of its critical infrastructure to boost productivity in a fast-moving, competitive marketplace. But time was in short supply and budgets were tight.
Insight planned, built and managed the migration to a new Nutanix platform, giving the client maximum functionality at minimum cost.
With a presence in 180 countries, the client needed reliable access to its data to inform global business decisions. However, key functions such as finance and operations were running on aging technology.
At this time, the client’s existing datacentre contracts were coming to an end. Decommissioning its four datacentres and consolidating them into two locations would not only be cost-effective, but it would remove the risk of lower reliability and limited agility of the aging technology.
Such a major migration involved collaboration with vendors, third party providers and asset disposal experts, but the client did not have the in-house resource to manage such a complex project. Insight was asked to manage the migration and to provide professional services to support the project.
“Insight scoped out the project and ran it from end-to-end, providing a single point of contact for our team. We benefitted hugely from Insight’s knowledge and expertise, which ensured the datacentre solution was exactly suited to our needs.”

To begin with, Insight conducted a series of site surveys and cable audits to prepare for the installation, working closely with Nutanix to ensure everything was in place for the engineering stages of the migration.
To mitigate risk for the client, and prevent the project expanding beyond its original scope, Insight’s pre-sales team vetted the solution to ensure that all the client’s requirements would be met.
A key challenge involved disposing of the old assets, which Insight addressed by engaging partner, Technimove, to manage the disposal to WEEE standards and provide the client with the required documentation.
Insight recommended keeping some of the legacy equipment for use at the new sites, resulting in significant cost savings.
Throughout the project, Insight managed all key contacts for the client, liaising between the client team, the vendors and other organisations.
Insight integrated the whole infrastructure solution at its UK distribution centre before installing it at the client’s new datacentres.
To tailor the solution to the client’s needs, Insight ran an enablement workshop on Nutanix Cloud Manager (formerly Calm), demonstrating the additional benefits to be had by adopting a multi-cloud application framework to automate the deployment of applications. The automated self-service allows administrators to use simple blueprints to define resources that individual applications require. This removes IT bottlenecks and significantly reduces the administrative overhead for managing, orchestrating and deploying applications to the cloud. Insight worked with Nutanix to ensure this additional functionality was included at no extra cost to the client.
